Had a wonderful birthday celebration at The Malayan Council Esplanade! The experience was made even more memorable by the warmth and kindness of the team, especially Jennefer. A special thank you to Jennefer for going the extra mile and making my celebration feel so special. The signature Durian Pengat Cake was absolutely delightful and made the occasion even more memorable! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality, thoughtful service and for helping to create such a lovely birthday memory. I truly appreciate the kindness and effort. Highly recommended for anyone looking for good food and a warm, memorable dining experience! 😊🎂

14/05/2026 - I came back and the experience we had was a lot worse! I was okay if they didn’t serve the bread / dessert at the end, as I took it as a bonus, but the service was really bad this time. The staff was nonchalant and kept missing out our orders despite us reminding them multiple times (Matcha with Strawberry) 01/12/2025 - Go hungry and get ready to be impressed. The Malayan Council delivers an amazing mix of Malay and Western flavours. I had the smoked duck lemak cili padi pasta — rich, spicy and full of comfort. Every dish was beautifully presented and the portions were generous for a place with fine dining vibes. Service was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive and gave great recommendations. The space feels upscale but still relaxed, and the prices are reasonable considering the quality and experience. Great spot for a date night or a nice dinner with a local twist. Worth the visit.

Food is as good as usual. Spicy with a kick. Realised that the serving portion is the normal portion as compared to the outlet near Beach road. Seats are spread out, giving customers their comfort zone. Staff is attentive too.

It was a Saturday night and only about 25–30% of the restaurant was occupied, yet the place still felt understaffed. No one checked if we were ready to order, and we had to signal a second staff member just to place our order. A water container was placed on the table, but no one bothered to pour it. At the very least, drinks could have been poured while we waited for our food — I thought that was a basic courtesy for customers. Two menu items were unavailable, including one I was really looking forward to. If items are not available, customers should be informed upfront — not after we have already decided what to order. The food was average and nothing particularly memorable. Considering the level of service, I honestly don’t understand the hype behind the current 4.7 rating (as of 25 April 2026). The only positive point is the location. Will I come again? No. Will I recommend this place to others? Also no. My honest suggestion to the owner, Hafiz: if staffing is a challenge, it may be best to close the restaurant’s operations rather than continue in its current state.
