When to the Balestier Shaw Plaza outlet for breakfast today. Very affordable at $12.50 for 2 sets (including a coffee latte and a small orange juice). Good ambience. Cooling and relaxing feel. They are also running a 1-for-1 cheesecake promo.

Standard coffee and pastry outlet. Good repeatable taste and consistency. Service is good and huge area for seating inside Shaw Plaza.

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the service I received at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf outlet in Shaw Plaza, Balestier, specifically from the barista named Ismail. On my visit, I ordered a "venti cold brew," using the size terminology commonly associated with coffee chains. Ismail responded by stating that he did not know what a "venti" was. Upon glancing at the menu, I noted that The Coffee Bean uses "large" rather than "venti" for its largest size. I politely asked whether he could simply interpret "venti" as "large," to which he again replied that he did not know what it meant. As a professional barista working in a major coffee chain, it is reasonable to expect familiarity with standard industry terminology, including size designations used by prominent competitors such as Starbucks, where "venti" universally denotes the largest cold drink size. Ismail's repeated claim of ignorance struck me as disingenuous and, frankly, dismissive. Rather than assisting a customer with a simple translation or offering helpful clarification, his response came across as unnecessarily obstinate and unprofessional. This interaction left me feeling undervalued as a customer and detracted significantly from what should have been a pleasant coffee experience. Regrettably, it reflects poorly on the training and service standards at this location. For these reasons, I rate my experience one star and would caution others about potential inconsistencies in customer service.
