It smell good when i walked past the store so decided to pop in for a quick bite. For a steak house, the quality of beef is way below par. - You really need to read the menu carefully so that you're aware of the doneness. If u choose steak on a stoneslab, the doneness is pre-determined n you can't change it. 150g will get medium n 300g will get medium rare. Unless you are a good cook, eat somewhere else. - I ordered 1 x Signature Wagyu set at about $35. The beef arrived with 1 side grill marks seared for presentation, and other side cooking on stone. The edges all round are all RAW. No locking in of juice n heat. I would say is almost 70% raw steak. - The steak is full of veins and so damn hard to chew. - The sauces are gimmicky and just like the soup....all tasted overly salty. - The picture show some beef being cut into smaller pieces for faster cooking and yet it was still medium rare after 8mins on the hot stone. - I eat steak twice weekly and this is one of those places I will never return to eat. The western food stalls in our Kopitiam still tastes better.

Rating this purely on the food, given that the experience is all automated from ordering via QR to payment (so you can ignore the service entirely). Sufficient space for couples and families of 4. Come to this place if you: 1. Want to experience cooking your own meat on a hot stone (maybe for the kids to have fun). 2. Don't care about how your meat taste (explained below). 3. Very hungry and want to eat a slab of meat (generous portions, looks beyond 300g), with unlimited rice (short grained, cooked decently well) and veggie (crunchy) refill. 4. Require Halal options Now, on to the review of the steak. My partner and I both ordered different cuts (sirloin and ribeye) to try different cuts of beef. However, apart from the meat looking like what they are supposed to be, they tasted almost the same. We suspect that the meats have been tenderised with baking soda to allow for easier cutting with the knives provided, but it also overpowered the taste of what you would come to expect from proper steak. The taste, I would liken it to venison that you would order from zhi char or wonton noodles with a very strong alkaline aftertaste (according to my partner). Would recommend a different way to tenderise (if you even need to?) the beef. Beyond the meat tasting nothing like steak, the concept of a hot stone is hindered by the thickness of the beef. While the meat (300g) came blue and you can "control" the doneness you want, the exterior of the meat generally gets too cooked, while the interior remains rare-mediumrare. Either you have to massacre a perfectly good piece of meat to cook it evenly, or eat it with uneven doneness (which is probably too rare for most people's tastes). Recommend for the steaks to be wider, not thicker so it cooks more evenly? Being someone that only writes reviews if there's a benefit for me, or if its truly good (see all my 5 stars), i felt extremely compelled to write something after this experience. While it was respectfully a meal with no hiccups, the execution of the concept felt like someone who heard of what steak is but have never had it before. For the same price, I am sure you can get much better steak experiences with the same level of fullness and satisfaction. I have had better steak at your neighbourhood western stalls, just that I cant cook it myself. Wouldn't recommend eating here nor come back again, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the establishment. I just can't fathom a cow dying for this.

Came here on a weekday afternoon, just after 2pm to avoid the lunch crowd. Freely able to get a table for 2. Ordered the 150g Sirloin Lunch Set (which comes with unlimited refill of the rice, vege and soup?) for $11.90 (before GST + service charges). Meal came decently fast for a steak dish, as it was not crowded. Meat portion and taste was decent for the price. I chose baked potato for my side which came with a bit of butter. I like that it comes on a hot stone plate so if you wish to have your steak a bit more done you can cut and leave it on the stone for a bit longer. A small portion of the meat with the tendon(?) was a bit tough-ish (which i could not chew) but for the most part everything was nice and filling. The meat was also placed on top of beansprouts (taugeh) on the hotplate, so do remove them if you are not planning to have overcooked taugeh 🤣 Service wise: Can’t say much about the service as we were told to order via the QR code and made payment via the ordering site as well. Not much conversation needed and sauces and cutlery are already provided per table. Based on the other reviews, would say keep an open mind and consider this a no-frills restaurant as your own personal experience may vary.

Review: Extreme Service Gap & Subpar Steak I had a very polarizing experience at this 99 Steak outlet today. The service gap between two staff members was like night and day. The Service (The Bad): We were "served" by a man in spectacles who seemed like he didn’t want us there. He stared at us from behind the curtains for a long time before coming out. His greeting was a rude "What you want?" and when we asked about ordering, he barked, "U ownself scan and u ownself order." This "kopitiam" attitude is completely unprofessional. He was seen throwing utensils loudly and even called other customers "神经病" (crazy) loudly. This happened when there were potential customers waiting in queue to be served but he was not bothered, and the potential customers left saying it seems like the restaurant do not want to service them. The Service (The Good): She only entered the store when we were leaving, think she was on a break. In total contrast, there was a lady staff member who was a true professional. She was constantly smiling, greeted everyone warmly, and even took the time to gently push in chairs at the tables beside us to maintain the ambience. The Food & Drink: The Beef: Very disappointing. I tried cooking it to Rare, Medium-Rare, and even Medium-Well, but it remained extremely chewy and dry throughout. It felt like a low-quality cut rather than a cooking issue. You can see the aftermath of the beef I had to spit out after. The Berry Fizz: This tasted like syrup water with zero carbonation. While a spoon was provided to stir the syrup, drinking it without a straw was a mess because of the mint leaves, ice, and berries. Recommendations for Management: Professional Phrasing: Train staff (especially the man in spectacles) to use polite language. Instead of singlish like "you ownself scan and you ownself order," use: "You may scan the QR code on the table to view the menu and order." Cooking Guidance: Since it’s DIY on a hot plate, give customers a timing guide. For example: "Leave it for 5 minutes per side for a medium-rare finish." Sauce Clarity: Explain the sauces on the table. Are they for the steak, the cabbage, or the hot plate? Don’t leave guests guessing. This would have been a one-star review if not for the nice lady staff member. Her professionalism saved the experience—she made a point to smile and say, "Thank you and hope you have a great day ahead!" as we left. Because of her, I am giving this two stars instead.

Enjoyed myself with the simple environment, simple service but nice good value selection of meats. @ $9.90 onwards, with free flow rice, cabbage and seaweed soup, it's good deal. Balance is at the $12.90, for young growing adults it's a good deal. Drinks is sub par, so just get want you need. Sauces are good enough, not important, just dab a little bit of salt for the meat and it's flavourful enough.
