Right at Level 2 PLQ Mall near sustainable bridge situated Indonesian Pondok Jawa. Food was served quite fast & beverages are mind blowing thirst quenched. Rendang wax their signature dish, super tender. Yellow & white rice are nice, pecel was tasty & sup Buntut was refreshing. Sambal blacan was a killer & pinch on every spoonful.

Their rendang (marinated beef) was tender and flavourful. Pecel (steamed vegetables with peanut sauce) was also very nice and authentic, with not too thick sauce. Nasi Goreng Petai was not oily, would be nicer if they provide some sambal. One miss was the satay taichan, tasteless (chicken should be marinated with more seasoning?) and can't be salvaged by the chili and lime provided. Price on the higher range, $16-18 for the rice platter.

Spurred by a highly rated 4.7-star review on Google, I decided to visit Pondor Jawa to sample their authentic Indonesian menu. We ordered four different dishes to share, and while there were definitely some bright spots, a few elements missed the mark for us. Here is our gentle take on how the dishes fared: The Menu Breakdown Nasi Campur | ⭐⭐⭐ The chili and curry sauces were the true highlights here, offering a really nice, vibrant depth of spice and traditional flavor. However, the chicken itself was on the drier side and lacked a bit of seasoning, which took away from the overall dish. Tahu Telok | ⭐⭐⭐ This version was quite different from the standard Tahu Telur you find at other Indonesian establishments. The fried egg portion was a bit modest, and the peanut sauce was on the milder side, lacking that deep, punchy kick we were hoping for. Satay Taichan | ⭐ Unfortunately, this was our least favorite dish of the meal. The chicken was quite tough and dry, and it didn't seem to carry much flavor. With a bit more moisture and marinade, it has the potential to be much better. Pecel Lele (2 Pieces of Catfish) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The absolute star of the evening! The two pieces of catfish were beautifully prepared. The skin was fried to a delightful, golden crispness, while the meat inside remained wonderfully moist, tender, and flavorful. The kitchen absolutely nailed this one. Final Thoughts 🍳 The Takeaway: While the Pecel Lele was truly exceptional and the chili and spices across the board were very well-executed, the consistency of the meat dishes holds us back from making a return visit. It is worth a stop if you are a fan of fried catfish, but there is definitely room for improvement on the chicken dishes! Total spend $60 11.06.26

We ordered a spread of comforting, wallet-friendly dishes, from the rich ayam kare with fragrant nasi kuning to smoky sate ayam and that insanely crispy ikan nila. Also loved the homely touches like gado-gado, perkedel, and ayam penyet that rounded out the meal perfectly. We paired the meal with a classic avocado juice, teh botol, and a refreshing bowl of es campur to end on a sweet note.

I had a really satisfying meal at Pondok Jawa and it definitely delivered on authentic Indonesian comfort food. We ordered quite a spread — Nasi Kuning Ayam, Soun Goreng, Sayur Lodeh, Tahu Telur, and Ayam Penyet — and every dish had its own highlight. The nasi kuning was fragrant and fluffy with a nice turmeric aroma, while the ayam penyet came crispy and paired perfectly with a punchy, spicy sambal. The soun goreng had a savoury, slightly smoky flavour that made it very addictive, and the sayur lodeh was rich and comforting with its creamy coconut base. The tahu telur stood out too, with a great mix of crispy and soft textures coated in a sweet savoury sauce. For drinks, the avocado juice was thick and creamy, and the wedang jahe was warm and soothing. Dessert was a standout — the es teler was super refreshing, with shaved ice, avocado, jackfruit, coconut, and condensed milk coming together really well after the heavier dishes. Overall, the flavours felt authentic, hearty, and very comforting. It’s the kind of place you’d come back to when you’re craving something satisfying and full of flavour.
