Got to know about this place from an online recommendation. Arrived at around 11:40 with a queue that’s already formed up, the process is both long and grueling, the store provides only one corner for in-person orders, the other staff seemed to be preoccupied with online orders. The long wait was compounded by folks who ordered many packs to go, yes I had 3 in front of the 6 in front of me ordering between 8-12 packs.
While looking at their options, I couldn’t help but to notice that the guy serving up the food orders was scoping up some pretty oily stuff off a tray on the top front of their food display. I mistaken it as possibly the sambal that goes with Nasi Lemak but I was so wrong. I came to realize that the tray is used for their Ikan Billis (deep fried anchovies), and it is left with just bits of these small fishes and full of oil. At this point, the guy was simply scoping up oil and a measly bit of “what’s left” in the tray; it was clear to me that he was just going through the motion to mimic the action of scoping up ingredients.
Then came my turn, I was lucky enough that the tray ran out of the actual item and was left with just oil. I was not going to take it, I told him that I want a proper serving and was hit with a bummer, he bluntly told me “we are out of Ikan Billis”. Ok… usually this would mean a replacement, wrong … he simply brushed it off and proceed to finish up my order. I asked again which prompted him to “generously” serve up one more slice of cucumber.
I was dumbfounded, we are all paying for the food, it is not like anything is free. This is NOT the way how customers should be treated.
Anyway, onto the food, the rice is pretty nice, it has the old school feel when eaten with the sambal. The rest, in my case the Ayam Merah, is just fried chicken dipped in another form of sambal, it’s hard and quite dry, not worth any mention. The egg is just an oily egg, and nothing else.
In summary, the food is an oily mess, while effort can be seen in the rice, the whole experience and combination made it not worth any repeat visit at all.
