Aunty Sham Ayam Penyet turned out to be a surprisingly satisfying meal. I ordered the mee rebus and it delivered more than expected for a simple hawker dish. The gravy was thick, rich and comforting with a nice balance of savoury sweetness that coated every strand of noodle well without becoming overly heavy. The yellow noodles had a good bite and soaked up the sauce nicely. What stood out was the crispy Bergidil on top. It looked simple at first but was juicy inside with a crunchy golden exterior, and gave it an extra indulgent twist that paired unexpectedly well with the mee rebus. The toppings of fried shallots, spring onion and crispy croutons added texture and made every mouthful more enjoyable. The egg also helped mellow the richness of the gravy. Portion was generous and felt like excellent value for money. Comfort food done right. Simple, hearty and nostalgic with a little modern twist. Would happily come back again for this. 🍜🔥

Simple, yet delicious. This unassuming plate of mee rebus just hit the spot and tasted like what I used to have in primary school. The gravy was just thick enough to coat the noodles and tasted slightly sweet and nutty. A little bit of chili gave it some heat too. Priced at $4, the mee rebus was a satisfying portion. I topped up $1 for begedil which was equally yummy.

It's not easy to find a good ol' school style Mee Rebus in Singapore anymore, but when you do, it's Aunty Sham's at Berseh Food Center. Noodles' cooked to perfection; not too soggy nor uncooked. Gravy is well-balanced in terms of sweetness and thickness. Hardboiled egg is fresh, and bonus goes to the generous amount of crunchy green chillis which make this plate of Mee Rebus so satisfying!
