Rise and shine at 9 a.m. with a leisurely morning stroll through this vibrant neighborhood!
This lively hawker hub awakens early to greet the morning crowd, with most stalls winding down by around 12:30 p.m. Among them, the shining star is Rajarani Thosai, renowned for its tantalizing array of flavourful thosai.
Despite calling this neighborhood home for ages, I hadn’t yet indulged in their famed thosai—until now. Tales of their legendary taste have long circulated, claiming it’s among the best in town. It’s no surprise that locals flock here, making it a must-visit spot whenever you’re nearby.
So next time you're wandering through Tampines Round Market, don’t miss the chance to stop by Rajarani Thosai. Their crispy, delicious thosai might just become your new favourite!
It was my inaugural attempt, and in my eagerness, I ordered two—mistakenly confusing plain thosai and masala thosai. The wonderful Kakak Shikmi kindly offered me a complimentary plain thosai during my first taste, which turned out to be utterly delightful, with a gravy that was irresistibly flavourful.
Excited to try the masala thosai version (spicy with meshed potatoes filling), I told Kakak Shikmi I’d be returning to taste it and insisted on paying for my meal, I paid for the second meals though her kind gesture made me feel truly grateful. Thank you, Kakak!
I also shared with Kakak Shikmi, who took my order, and Madam Mala, the stall owner, that your thosai is truly delightful.
About the dish!
Freshly crafted upon, the thosai emerged crisp and aromatic, embodying the true essence of comfort food. There's nothing quite like savoring a hot, freshly made delight—each bite bursting with authentic flavour. Lightly greased and perfectly textured, it was accompanied by a classic trio of sides: creamy coconut chutney, tangy red chutney, and hearty dhal. Sadly, they don’t serve fish curry here, which remains my personal favourite, but their signature dishes more than make up for it.
As mentioned above, for my second round, I indulged in a masala thosai filled generously with savory mashed potatoes. The potatoes were smooth, well-cooked, and packed with flavour—a true crowd-pleaser.
A heads-up: unlike some stalls, they don’t serve the ultra-thin, crispy paper thosai I’ve enjoyed elsewhere, so keep that in mind.
Patience is key when ordering—be prepared for a wait. When the stall is in full swing, you might find yourself waiting around 30 minutes to place your order, especially if there's already a line forming.
Despite the busy atmosphere, the owner’s service is quick and attentive. With a bit of luck, you can have your delicious feast in about 20 minutes.
Madam Mala and Kakak Shikmi, the duo behind the thosai magic, swiftly whip up the delicious delights and serve eager customers with enthusiasm. Their attentiveness in taking orders ensures no detail is missed, creating a lively buzz at the stall.
A friendly tip: when placing your order at the counter with Kakak Shikmi, be as clear as a sunny day—this helps ensure everything is perfectly in sync.
While the service has its strengths, there's room to elevate the customer experience further. A warm greeting can turn an ordinary visit into a memorable one, making customers feel at home and eager to return. Improving this aspect could turn casual visitors into loyal fans, reducing any lingering negative reviews.
The takeaway Appam is a delightful treat—just remember to request it freshly made for the best experience.
And don’t miss the Puttu Mayam with coconut—another tasty option that’s sure to satisfy your cravings.
And here’s are their recognition.
