"A hidden gem with a beautiful mission!" I recently visited Metta Cafe and was absolutely blown away by both the food and the heartwarming cause behind it. Located in the Metta Building in Simei, this cafe is a wonderful social enterprise that provides vocational training and employment for youths with special needs—and they do a spectacular job!

It’s nice that this canteen opens to the public and is air conditioned. Personally, the location is really out of the way and the food is quite expensive compared to other canteens. The bee hoon was way too oily and vegetables are stone cold. Breakfast ends at 10:30am. Some days, the cafe can be unexpectedly closed for staff to rest. I find that it can be scary to eat here because the crowd includes special people. On a follow up visit, the food is now warmer than before. It is better to visit earlier in the morning. Other than the air conditioning, I don’t see why would anybody come here instead of going to the local hawker/market where a similar meal is a lot more affordable.
