This is a Bengali (Kolkata-style) Indian restaurant where I stopped by for a special Jamai Shoshti buffet lunch. The place was quite small, and it was extremely crowded due to the occasion. We walked in without a reservation, and although they were kind enough to accommodate us, we still had to wait about 10 minutes for a table.
The buffet itself was very busy and at times felt a bit chaotic, as it seemed they were not fully prepared for such a large turnout. That said, the spread was extensive and very rooted in traditional Bengali cuisine.
The appetizer station had phuchka (pani puri), which was unfortunately disappointing. The shells felt store-bought, the potato filling was bland, and the tamarind water lacked the punch and flavor you would expect.
The main spread, however, was much better. It included luchi with shada alur torkari (a simple, comforting potato curry), fried eggplant, steamed rice, dal, and several other typical Bengali dishes. It was wonderful to see such an authentic lineup in California, where this style of food is not commonly available.
The standout for me was the chicken malai tikka, which was absolutely delicious—rich, tender, and full of flavor. The shukto was decent, the greens were okay, and both the shrimp and fish in mustard gravy were enjoyable, though not exceptional. The mutton and chicken dishes were solid overall.
There was a large variety of food, and by the end, I was completely full. I couldn’t even try the payesh, but I really enjoyed the malpua, which was a highlight of the dessert section.
While the experience was a bit disorganized—with shortages of plates and delays in refilling items—the atmosphere felt very nostalgic. They played Bengali music from artists like Chandrabindu and Shilajit, which gave the whole experience a strong Kolkata vibe.
Overall, despite the chaos, it was a satisfying experience. It felt like a little taste of home, and I would definitely consider going back for another Bengali buffet, hopefully on a better-prepared day.
