Service: 0/5. Disrespect, dishonesty, and total management failure.
I had a very bad experience at this bakery.
My family, especially my elderly mother and father, have been regular customers here for many years and frequently purchase food from this shop. After this incident, I will be advising them not to support this bakery anymore.
The issue began when I purchased donuts clearly labelled “Chocolate Donut.” Only after reaching home did I realise they were plain sugar donuts. These were bought as a small treat for my toddler son.
I did not make a big issue out of the mistake itself, but I am completely certain this was not my fault. It was an honest shop error caused by incorrect placement of signage.
As a professional chef with many years of experience, I know very well that chocolate donuts do not always have chocolate on the outside. Often, they contain chocolate filling inside and are dusted with icing sugar. This is common knowledge in the food industry.
I returned calmly and politely to explain the issue.
Unfortunately, this is where the situation turned unacceptable. The cashier completely ignored me. When I tried again, she deliberately ignored me once more and instead mocked and bantered sarcastically with her Indonesian colleague in their language, clearly assuming I would not understand.
Her tone was disrespectful and unkind. She then told me it was not her problem because one piece of the 8 ball donut had already been eaten, which was never the issue. I even tried to show her the sign placed directly in front of the tray stating “Chocolate Donut,” but she refused to come over to look at it.
What frustrated me further was that she continued serving other customers while blatantly ignoring me. Up to this point, I had not been rude or aggressive in any way.
Out of frustration, I explained my situation to a few elderly male customers nearby. Only then did the cashier suddenly come forward, raise her voice, shout at me, and mock me publicly in front of other customers.
At that point, I lost my composure. No customer deserves to be treated this way. Several customers present could clearly see her behaviour was completely out of line.
As someone who has worked many years in both front of house and back of house service, I find her behaviour unruly, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Someone who lacks basic emotional control and respect should not be placed at a cashier counter dealing with customers. If necessary, such staff should be kept away from direct customer interaction.
What makes this even more disappointing is that she is Muslim. As a Muslim myself, this behaviour deeply saddened me. I sincerely pray she learns and practises proper adab, because a person’s tongue can easily become their downfall.
I was informed that both the manager and the boss would contact me. To be fair, the lady manager was polite and apologised to me over the phone, but that apology was never meant to come from her. She did not cause the issue. Worse, she promised to update me and never did. To this day, I have received no follow up, no confirmation, and no accountability.
I was also informed that after the incident, the same cashier continued mocking and speaking sarcastically about me. This shows there was no remorse, no reflection, and no intention to change. I was told a warning letter and training would be issued, yet I received no proof, no update, and complete silence.
This is not just a staff problem. It is a management failure. Broken promises, empty apologies, and silence reflect a poorly run business that refuses to take responsibility.
I will never return to this bakery again. From staff behaviour to management inaction, this experience shows an unruly, dishonest, and poorly managed establishment. This is especially upsetting as I have lived in this neighbourhood for over 25 years.
If you are not grateful working in Singapore then go back and make a living where you came from. Otherwise be grateful, polite and respectful to the locals and to all humans .
If you got personal issues , stay at home .
