Right in the heart of Chinatown’s colourful shophouses sits Whiskdom Cafe, instantly recognisable by its bright blue signboard and pastel surroundings. Outside, tiny tables with blue chairs line the walkway if you’re in the mood to people-watch.
Inside, the interior is cosy and cute and white walls, warm wooden shelves and blue striped canvas framing their signature gooey cookies and chunky brownies that have probably flooded your IG feed before!
Yes, this is that Instagram-famous bakery known for lava brownies, chunky cookies and bagelwiches. Portion sizes are decent, but prices are definitely on the steeper side.
Here’s what I tried:
Smoked Salmon Avo Bagel ($19)
This was stacked. So thick I genuinely couldn’t fit it into my mouth in one bite. Toasted bagel layered with smoked salmon, creamy avocado slices, scallion cream cheese and tomato. The salmon was fresh, no fishiness, and the avo was generous. No faults with the ingredients, though I wished the bagel was more toasted and slightly softer for easier biting.
Chilli Crab Mac & Cheese ($26)
This is served piping hot in a dish, so be careful. There’s a crumbly cheesy crust enveloping the macaroni, with generous crab chunks throughout. But there is no chilli crab taste. The portion felt petite for the price, the macaroni was slightly overcooked and a tad dry, and we missed a proper cheese pull. Good crab ratio, but could’ve used more ooze.
Pulut Hitam Gelato ($12.50)
Warm black glutinous rice in gula melaka, topped with coconut cream and your choice of gelato (We picked the Hokkaido Blue Pea). Savoury-sweet, earthy and nutty, with that salty coconut cream tying it all together. It’s a fun local twist that works surprisingly well.
Tiramisu Latte ($8.50)
Sweet and thick, topped with mascarpone cream and a ladyfinger. Tip: eat the ladyfinger early before it gets too soaked. Dessert and coffee in one cup.
Strawberry Matcha (Iced) ($8.50 +$1 oat milk)
This one impressed me. The strawberry compote had mini strawberry bits and was one of the better versions I’ve had. The drink was thick and creamy! We left it sitting for a while and it barely diluted. Fruity, earthy and layered beautifully.
Menu-wise, they go beyond the usual. Bagels like Otah Avo, Butter Chicken Shashuka, Butter Paneer, Aloha Pulled Beef, Louisiana Cajun Chick and even Almond Butter Jelly keep things interesting. Drinks include Ondeh Ondeh Latte, Mont Blanc, Aurora Spark, Matcha-Presso and Yuzu Matcha Sparkle.
It’s a vibey café with creative twists on local flavours, though you’ll be paying café prices. Come for the aesthetic, stay for the bold menu, and maybe split a few dishes to make it worth it.
