The bakery is really nice as a store, the decorations are wonderful, the bakeries tastes good as well. But the staff there are really rude!! They need to learn some basic curtesy. There were 2 staffs, one looked mid 60s, the other looked mid 40s or even late 30s. The older person had like greying hair with most of it dyed brown. The younger person had a short torque on. The older aunty was cashiering me and when i inquired about the $1.20 addon for kunafa pistachio, she gave me a annoyed look and went “HUH? What pistachio?🙄😒” then she turned around and asked the mid 40s staff, “What is this ‘addon addon’ he is talking about??😒”. The slightly younger staff then replied smth which i cldnt even comprehend cuz she wasn’t making any sense in her explanation, so i clarified and asked her, “Like if i were buy kunfa waffle on top of this blueberry waffle, it wld be $1.40?” and she said “no!” like she literally raised her voice at me. At that point i really didnt want to hold another conversation or think abt getting the kunafa anymore and just waited for my waffle and once done, just left. That is really a “day ruining” time for me. I hope the management teaches those 2 staffs some curtesy and respect.

I usually support neighbourhood bakeries and don’t like to complain, but this experience at Swee Heng 1988 (Sembawang Mart) really left me feeling uncomfortable. I ordered a Kaya & Strawberry waffle, but the shop assistant prepared Chocolate & Strawberry instead. When I politely told her about the mistake, she rolled her eyes and insisted I had ordered chocolate. Luckily, the cashier confirmed that my order was indeed Kaya. What hurt more than the mistake was the lack of basic courtesy. There was no apology, and the situation was handled in a very dismissive way. The wrongly made waffle was then passed to another customer with a comment about throwing it away otherwise, which felt awkward and unprofessional. The manager was aware but did not step in. As residents here, we continue supporting this outlet because it’s the only bakery nearby. That’s why I hope management will take this feedback seriously and not to punish anyone, but to improve service attitude and remind staff that kindness and respect matter. Everyone can make mistakes, but how we handle them makes all the difference.

Best waffles I've had so far. Crispy when eaten right away, and chewy when left to cool. Good on both sides!

I like this neighborhood bakery. The Ang Ku Kueh is only available on one day before chu yi and shi wu (1st & 15th of lunar calendar). I like peanut filling but too bad only green beans is available when I visited the bakery. The price is very neighborhood, as compare to many other brands out in the market. Skin is thin, soft, chewy texture which of my opinion the best that I get so far. With $2.30, you can have 5 in a box. It was really a worth buy and must have each month (where I rather wait for this twice-a-month date to sate my appetite for ang ku kueh). The dao sha bia was also my favourite. I do go for their red bean toast whenever I want to.

A dependable and convenient stop for fresh, halal-certified buns and pastries, the Swee Heng Bakery at Sembawang Mart is a neighborhood staple for residents and regular shoppers. While it’s not the “1989 Signature” version, this branch offers all the classics you’d expect from Swee Heng — simple, satisfying, and great value. 🍞 What’s Good: • Wide variety of local-style buns: From red bean, pandan, and coconut to curry, sausage, and chicken floss buns — the selection covers both sweet and savoury favorites. • Freshness: Items are generally baked fresh and restocked throughout the day. You might even catch warm buns if you visit in the morning or early afternoon. • Wallet-friendly: Great pricing, with most buns costing around $1.50 to $2. It’s perfect for families, students, or anyone looking for a light bite without breaking the bank. • Halal-certified: A reliable choice for the Muslim community, just like all other Swee Heng branches. • Convenient location: Right inside Sembawang Mart near the supermarket, making it easy to grab bread while doing your groceries. 🤏 What Could Be Better: • Smaller selection: Compared to “1989 Classic” or “Signature” outlets, this branch sticks mostly to the basics — don’t expect premium buns or seasonal creations. • No dine-in area: It’s a takeaway-only setup, typical of heartland bakeries. • Peak hour queues: Can get crowded during after-school or dinner rush, so it’s best to visit earlier for the best choices. ⭐ Final Thoughts: Swee Heng at Sembawang Mart is a classic, no-frills neighborhood bakery. It’s not about trends — it’s about good, fresh bread at honest prices. If you’re nearby and need a snack, breakfast, or something to bring home, it’s definitely worth stopping by.
