Notwithstanding that the food quality is inconsistent at this busy outlet, with food being overcooked on the grill until they char and their staff getting items wrong for orders every now and then, the service of the manager named Adam, is stellar. He impressed me greatly with how quickly, fairly and painlessly he addressed valid complaints.
For context, I ordered a curry potato burger at this outlet on one occasion and a cappuccino on another. I was served a burger with burnt egg, buns and chicken patty for the curry potato burger, while I was given a hot black coffee instead of a cappuccino. Since I was bothered by having to pick out all the charred edges and areas for the burger, my first recourse was to send them an email detailing the incident. However, the customer care representative, Ryan, who responded to my ticket 1104190, ghosted me after I replied to his request seeking to verify the email address linked to my McDonalds account. Despite sending him multiple email messages to follow up with him, he chose not to respond.
Shortly after, the issue with the coffee happened and I decided to call this outlet directly instead of emailing McDonald's customer care. I feel fortunate and grateful to have my call answered by Adam, as he took his time to listen and understand my concerns, did not second-guess and regard my claims in a cynical manner and immediately de-escalated the situation by apologising and offering me the items that I had faced issues with. When I met him in person, Adam was gentle and wonderfully mild-mannered in his demeanor, easy-going, meticulous, courteous and helpful. While standing and waiting at a distance away from him to have my orders ready for pickup, I observed that he was composed and respectful when he discussed about any order mistakes or operational issues with his team. An exemplary team leader like him sets the bar high for hospitality, and I hope the management takes notice of his ability to both serve with heart, empathy and graciousness and lead with humility and effectiveness, especially in an outlet that sees large crowds of tourists and Singaporeans alike throughout the day.
Incidentally, I am thankful for the fact that managers donning grey jackets exist in every McDonalds outlet to handle complaints and feedback. To date, I have not seen or interacted with a manager that has been rude, slow to understand problems, testy, inconsiderate or unprofessional. I also appreciate the fact that each outlet has its own number manned by its corresponding outlet manager, meaning help is easily accessible.
On a final note, I hope that McDonalds looks into providing better training and closer supervision for some of its staff with special needs, however supportive I am of the fact that they are trying to be more inclusive with their recruitment efforts. Moreover, they can do better with preventing lapses in communication and ghosting via email, when complaints are first submitted by the said method.
