It’s a pleasant surprise to find such udon store in the Tampines. I always wanted to try cold Himokawa Udon and they seem limited for dine in only. I’m satisfied with the chewy texture for these weather. They also offer other 3 types of the udons, highly recommend to give a try for the first timer. They cost half of those speciality udon shop in town. Ofc the ingredients are not as fancy as them, similar to Tamoya, slightly more expensive, but worth the variety level.

At first glance, this Japanese udon restaurant certainly looks and feels very Japanese, from the interior setting to the overall atmosphere. However, it’s actually a local restaurant, which I found quite interesting. One of the highlights is that they offer four different types of udon: Himokawa, Sanuki, Inaniwa, and Hoto. This is quite unique in Singapore, as it’s not often that you get to compare different regional styles of Japanese udon under one roof. The menu also has a good variety of dishes and choices, and when I visited, they were offering a special National Day menu as well. Unfortunately, the udon itself was the main disappointment for me. The noodles were noticeably soft and lacked the “Koshi” — the characteristic firmness, elasticity and chewy texture that makes good Japanese udon enjoyable. I was expecting the noodles to have more bounce and resistance when biting into them, but instead they felt somewhat overcooked and lacking in texture. I’m not sure whether this was due to the cooking process or the noodles themselves, but for a restaurant that places such a strong focus on offering different types of udon, I expected the noodle texture to be one of the highlights. Overall, I really appreciate the variety and the effort to introduce different regional udon styles in Singapore. The concept is interesting, the setting is pleasant, and there are plenty of choices on the menu. However, the noodle texture is a pretty important part of an udon experience, and unfortunately it didn’t quite meet my expectations this time.

I ordered the Himokawa white curry udon and added on the tempura ebi set and soft shell crab with chili. The udon was ok. The tempura ebi and soft shell crab were terrible. The batter was so blend like it was coated with flour for the sake of frying. As a result, I discarded the coat of flour and eat just the ebi itself. Next, the soft shell crab has no fragrance and was also like just having Maggie ketchup and chili sauce poured from the bottle onto it. Utterly a huge disappointment. I personally do not recommend. There are many better choices.

I liked my mentaiko carbonara udon. Big portion and the udon has a nice texture. Don’t bother with the set menu upgrade ($6) because the cabbage is the type that is usually free flow at other Japanese restaurants, and the 2pc karaage is small.

Ordered the one with tempura and i wasn’t disappointed. Price is comparable with other restaurants. They have himokawa udon (flat shaped) here. Worth a try if you haven’t not eaten that before but we still prefer the normal udon.
