This cafeteria used to be called "Yamagoya" (Mountain Hut), but it's now a cafeteria that sells halal food. However, I don't think there are that many Muslims there. Anyway, I went there for the first time in a while and had gapow. The gapow was soggy and, frankly, not very tasty. I think it was 450 yen. There was also fried chicken as an option, but I regret not ordering the regular fried chicken set meal. Rikkyo has other cafeterias, and Daiichi Shokudo is particularly famous, but I honestly thought this one was a bit iffy unless you're strict about halal food. Wi-Fi is available, which is nice, though.

The name might suggest it's for Muslims, but anyone can easily go in and eat there. If you're going, it's best to avoid Rikkyo University students' lunch break. I had the Loco Moco Donburi Deli Set. Honestly, the taste was what you'd expect from a school cafeteria. However, I think it's wonderful that they've properly implemented a system on campus where international students can eat safely and regularly at this price point. At least the people working there who are visible are all foreigners. I thought it would be even better if it also functioned as an employment opportunity.

Today, I went for a stroll around Ikebukuro, the town where I was born and raised, with some old-timer friends from my hometown. For lunch, we decided to eat at the Rikkyo University cafeteria, a place full of memories for me. Our target restaurant, Ivy, was closed on Saturdays, so we went to TOKYO Halal in Williams Hall. My friend was aiming for the Gapao Don (Thai basil chicken rice bowl). I was aiming for the Khao Man Gai (Thai chicken rice). Looking at the menu on display... Huh? They're not serving Khao Man Gai! Well, I guess I'll have to go for the roast chicken. And I might as well get the deli set with soup and salad. I bought a ticket and handed it to the lady. Oh, the lady is from the real thing! I was taking orders in a language I couldn't understand. And of course, the roast chicken was pre-made. Well, as long as it tastes good, that's all that matters. I sat down and took a sip of the soup. Slurp, slurp... Hey, hey, hey, is this soup just onion miso soup?! Let's try the salad... Auntie! Do you call boiled eggs "salad" in your country?! And only half an egg? What kind of salad is that?! Even if vegetables are expensive right now, this is just too much. And the rice isn't served by a person, it's served by a machine. That's fine, but the clumps of white rice fall out little by little, plop, plop. I wish they wouldn't serve it like it's already been eaten before you even eat it. And then the main course, the roast chicken. Tomato sauce on top. Some kind of shabby mizuna underneath. And the meat is super tough. When you hold it down firmly with a fork and start cutting with a knife, it moves all the way to the tray below. All you can do is laugh. The taste was okay, but my jaw got really tired. The portion size was also insufficient for an adult man (even though I'm an old man). In the end, I decided to go to Daiichi Shokudo afterwards. Roast chicken deli set. A 550 yen set where they insist on calling the onion miso soup "soup" and the boiled egg "salad." That's it. Bye-bye (^.^)/

This is a curry restaurant. Because it's a university cafeteria, it's cheap and the food is really delicious. Chicken curry and keema curry are available for 450 yen. It gets busy between 12:25 and 1:25 PM because Rikkyo University is on lunch break. I recommend going outside of these times.
