Very authentic Middle Eastern restaurant! We waited about 45 minutes to get a table. Honestly, the line was a little confusing because there wasn’t a clear sign showing where we were supposed to line up. That said, the food was delicious. I don’t often eat such authentic Middle Eastern food, so the flavors were a really nice surprise. It was definitely different from anything I’ve had before. The meat was a little on the dry side, but it was beautifully grilled and had a wonderful smoky flavor. The rice was also very flavorful with lots of fragrant spices, I really enjoyed it. My favorite was the large pieces of flatbread. They were filling, chewy, crispy, and incredibly fragrant. We also ordered the potato chop, which was delicious. The outside was perfectly crispy, while the minced meat inside had a very unique and flavorful blend of spices. We also tried ayran, which was definitely an acquired taste for me! I only managed to take a couple of sips and ended up leaving most of the glass. If you’ve never tried it before, I’d recommend trying a small amount first. The flavor reminded me a lot of pickle juice, so it definitely wasn’t something I was used to! The service was also very good. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant. The layout and flow of the line could definitely be improved, but the food itself was authentic and full of Middle Eastern flavor.

If you want to enjoy an authentic Iraqi meal, Sumac is the place to go. Every item we ordered was absolutely delicious. Ghufran was our server and she was very helpful and attentive. The waiting time is a bit bothersome but the food you get to enjoy makes up for it. Highly recommend.

Best chicken shawarma around if you get it in their special tanoor bread which is a thicker, almost naan like bread, which they're always making fresh. Make sure to ask for the tanoor bread as they also have it in saj bread which is much thinner and not as elite. In the special tanoor one, you get the chicken, a few french fries, coleslaw, garlic sauce, pomegranate molasses and hot sauce if requested. It's heavy, filling, a burst of flavour, and makes you have a nice nap after. The chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. The combo comes with either french fries, garlic potatoes or coleslaw; I'd go for the fries as they are nice and crispy and seasoned. Their coleslaw is also cool and fresh and not heavy on the dressing, just the right amount. If you don't want to venture elsewhere around Ridgeway for dessert, their milk-cake is worth a try. One issue you'll find is that even after almost 2 years of being open, there's still a line out the door to get seated if you go around dinner time. However, the line usually moves quickly and if you've never been, it's worth it to wait and give Sumaq a try.

Had to try this place after all the hype, and it definitely didn't disappoint! We waited around 45 minutes to get inside and another 10–15 minutes to place our order, but the service was quick once we reached the counter. The wait was absolutely worth it. The food was fresh, authentic, and full of flavour. We ordered two platters, which were more than enough to feed six people. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. If you're visiting Ridgeway, I highly recommend stopping by this spot. It's well worth the wait!
